Cut in Idar-Oberstein.

In the summer of 2018 I participated in the workshop Cut, Grind and Polish conducted by Alexander Friedrich part of the International Summer Academy in Idar-Oberstein.

The stone in these two finger ring, I cut from blue lace agate, also called Chalcedon. The patterning in the gemstone is so attractive that I felt it was a shame to conceal it within a setting box. To accentuate the pattern, I made the sides of the stone extra high. To me, the stone is an association with sparkling, gurgling and tumbling water. Listening to Miles David's song All Blues has the same appeal, and hence the title.

To let the stone rest between your middle and ring finger, I mounted it on an "H" made of solid silver. To also be able to see the beauty of the gem when not wearing it, I made a base out of beech wood.

It was a great introduction to the technique of stone grinding and I was able to try out all the tools in the workshop. A week in which I learned a lot and met fantastic people!

I wrote the BLOG International Summer Academy 1, International Summer Academy 2 and International Summer Academy 3 about my stay in Idar-Oberstein.
