Home. To me.
A stack of stories,
my memory like
a paperweight.
As a child, home was the front page and my world in a nutshell. As I grew older, it became the backstory, giving everything meaning. Years later, after my childhood home was sold, all I had left was an old newspaper that brought back memories.
My father worked for a regional newspaper for 39 years. In this sculpture, I included the anniversary edition published for the paper’s 75th year.
The marble cobble came from my parents' garden. Last year, after my mother passed away, I lost both her and the house that was my home. Witnessing her dementia made me realize how deeply memories shape our identities.
