Mihály Babits: The Epilogue of the Lyric Poet

Art connects creator and viewer.
For Inflow 2026, artists were invited to explore one of two poetic fragments. I chose *The Epilogue of the Lyric Poet* because I see transforming emotions and thoughts into art as a universal act. As artists, we are trapped in our inner world but also feel compelled to share it. This way, we offer the public a peek into our souls.
I translate this idea of sharing into my work as follows. The marble tile, a symbol of craftsmanship, represents the artist's skills. Piercing it shows how ideas strive to break free and be shared with the world. Yet the tile and iron wire also serve as barriers, echoing the obstacles of creation and the distance between creator and viewer.
Finally, the title, Windows to the Soul, ties this to Salvador Dalí’s statement: “Without an audience, these jewels would not fulfil their purpose. The viewer is therefore the ultimate artist. The viewer brings the creator’s intention to life.” In this exchange, we find the true strength of art.
