This object is inspired by the works of Niki de Saint Phalle (29 October 1930- 21 May 2002)
A French-American sculptor, painter and filmmaker, who is regarded as one of the few female monumental artists.
Niki is best known for colourful women's figurines. She has struggled with the roles society forced on her as a woman as well as her trauma as a result of sexual abuse by her father.
On the stand, which has a ball bearing, this bracelet turns into a zoetrope and so refers to Niki's films. The bracelet not only changes its function, but its appearance too, transforming into a hilltop fortress.
A zoetrope is considered one of the first animation devices for viewing motion pictures. It consists of an upright cylinder with vertically arranged slots. When the cylinder is spun around, through the slots, one can see the images that have been placed on the inside of the cylinder wall in motion.
This bracelet has been 3D printed in wax, after which the wax model was cast in silver using the classic lost wax method.
The finishing of the bracelet is done by hand.
