Beloved Memories #5 reflect my deep affection for my grandmother's dearest friend.
Their friendship began at age four and lasted 75 years, ending with my grandmother’s passing. Known as Auntie in our family, she was especially close to my father. After his death, we supported each other, and she became a friend to the next generation. I admired her wisdom and contentment, and I am grateful we shared the honor of winning first prize at the Jewelry Award. She passed away unexpectedly two weeks later, which remains a significant loss.
The brooch is one of five in the Beloved Memories series, which received first prize for Design and Craftsmanship at the 2017 Jewelry Award, where the theme was Precious.
To me, Precious is the wisdom, encouragement, advice, and love that shaped me. Each brooch expresses the feelings linked to a loved one. By displaying the brooches as a group of picture frames, I emphasise their connection to my loved ones and memories.
I cut the cobalt serpentine and handcrafted the stand myself.
An in memoriam for Thea, honoring this extraordinary woman, is available on my BLOG.
